History of Major League Cricket
Until recently, the US didn’t have purpose-built facilities required to host cricket events such as the ICC Cricket World Cup . In 2004, a T20 cricket league called Pro Cricket was unveiled in the US in 2004, with the aim of promoting cricket in the US. However, it lasted just one season.
It wasn’t until 2018 that USA Cricket announced it was aiming to establish a T20 league.
Bankrolled by 4 IPL franchises and 2 Australian cricket organisations (Cricket New South Wales and Cricket Victoria), the MLC was finally given lift-off in July 2023. Before that, each of the 6 MLC franchises was given a $1.5 million salary cap to procure the services of a list of players, and the Draft ceremony took place at NASA’s Houston Space Centre.
In 2024, the MLC announced a partnership with New Zealand Cricket to form a new team by 2027. The MLC’s chief executive has also spoken of the competition’s ambitions to expand to 10 teams and increase the number of games played.

Matches in the 2025 MLC season are held at three venues: Grand Prairie's Grand Prairie Stadium, Lauderhill's Broward County Stadium, and Oakland's Oakland Coliseum.
Which Teams Play in Major League Cricket?
As mentioned, there are 6 franchises in MLC - the Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom.
Each team has a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 19, with a cap of 9 overseas players.
Any remaining domestic players may be picked up during the domestic draft, which took place on February 20, 2025.
